Being a Star Wars fan, I had been looking forward to being the wedding photographer for this wedding for a long time; Hannah and Chris were having a Star Wars themed wedding at Oulton Hall, complete with star wars wedding cake and personalised light sabers!
I don’t usually meet the groom until they’re nervously sweating at the ceremony, but before Hannah met Chris, her first love was her cat and really wanted her to be involved. Unfortunately cats don’t make great ring bearers, so as their house was on the way to the venue (and the pub) I agreed to pop over to their house to grab some photos of their cat. The next stop wasn’t Oulton Hall, but on to the pub, their local The Uncorn Inn (although not that local with a 5-10minute car drive) where they are regulars. So regular that they had invited the pub to their wedding and the landlord had opened up early so Chris and his groomsmen could have an early pint.
Oulton Hall Wedding Photography
Walking into Oulton Hall, will leave your mouth wide open. It’s a stunning 18th Century Mansion, complete will statues, pillars and spa thrown in for good measure. It’s probably the most fanciest hotel I’ve photographed, but one of just many four star hotels in Yorkshire, providing luxury, class and style. Hannah’s bridal suite was fantastic, I usually fear brides getting ready in hotel rooms as they’re usually put in a small double room, with a tiny window and zero space for me, but that’s just part of the challenges that comes with being a wedding photographer. Instead Hannah had a gorgeous bridal suite complete for four poster bed and ceiling high windows. Plenty of room for me to move round in and Kimberley Brook doing a great job with wedding make up.
Make Your Wedding Your Own
Hannah and Chris definitely added their own stamp on their wedding, not only did they theme their wedding around one of their favourite things (Star Wars), but they even wrote and read their own wedding vows for the ceremony, even including lines from Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings. They even had readings from Game of Thrones read out by their stunning bridesmaids. Being one of the hottest wedding’s I’ve photographed too, I’m so glad they had the doors open just behind the registry table. Not only did this mean it lit Hannah and Chris beautifully, but it meant I could step backwards to get a wider shot, but mainly to grab some air and cool down. Finishing off the night, thank fully wasn’t a request I had been warned about. Yes, this wedding even had two lively aunt’s who lets just say, likes to have a drink. I had been warned about a request too, but I won’t go into that here. Hannah and Chris’ family all know about that. Instead the night ended with the amazing Hard to Handle packing out the dance floor and grabbing some quick sunset shots. A perfect way to finish off their wedding album.
Hannah and Chris, thank you for choosing me to photograph your fun, unique wedding at Oulton Hall.
“Matt went above and beyond for us to capture everything we wanted, including making an extra trip to get some pictures of our cat and going with my husband and the groomsmen to the pub to get pictures before heading to our venue to take photographs of us girls getting ready. Throughout the whole day Matt was so easy to work with, a good laugh and so relaxed. This just made our day so enjoyable, stress free and such good fun! We got so many compliments from our guests about how nice Matt was and a few laughs about some of the interesting positions he gets into the take the photos! Matt worked so hard and stayed into our evening reception taking photos of guests and our band.” – Hannah and Chris
