Heat, sun, more heat, more sun, no clouds, and an amazing venue. Photographing Vicky & Lucien’s wedding at Carlton Towers was amazing and one of the hottest I’ve ever done. Did I also mention it was hot?
When I first met Vicky & Lucien at a wedding fayre and they told me their plans, I was super excited to be possibly photographing their wedding at Carlton Towers. They were planning a James Bond themed party, specifically based on Casino Royale, which meant only one thing. CASINO at a wedding! I love a good game of poker, so I was definitely going to get on one of the poker tables once I’d finished shooting.
And with Vicky’s love for pizza, there was obviously a pizza van for the evening, which by the way was delicious and perfect for the journey home.
35 degree Wedding
So let’s talk about the heat. I’ve never shot a wedding so hot before and I do not look good wearing smart shorts either, so I was stuck in my usual skinny black jeans. At the peak of the day, which so happened to be when we were doing group photos outside (with next too little shade) it hit 35 degrees. I’ve been to the Dominican Republic and it didn’t even hit that high!
Carlton Towers Wedding Portraits
The wedding portraits were a nice chance to take in the stunning grounds of Carlton Towers. As usual, I just like to spend 10-20minutes just walking around the grounds, but not all grounds date back to the 14th century and is home to a Lord and Lady, which by the way seem really lovely and congratulated the nearly weds as we walked past Lady Fitzalan Howard sunning with her dogs.
Pizza and Casino
The evening brought the best part of the day for me, casino by Ace of Spades and pizza! I also used this time to grab Vicky and Lucien for some extra wedding photos using some off-camera flash. The sunset was gorgeous behind Carlton Towers creating a purple sky so I had to grab the bride and groom for one last shot, apart from Lucien had gone for a cold bath (without telling me), so instead I just had some pizza while we waiting for him to come down.
The best part of the day though? getting into my aircon car for a nice cold drive home (I joke).
One of the hottest days I’ve ever worked.
It was awesome to work with these guys too.
