I love barn weddings, as you can probably tell and Sandburn Hall is a gorgeous venue to photograph a wedding. As well as Barn weddings, I love photographing relaxed couples and that’s what Amy And Matt were. Super relaxed and chilled.
Relaxed Wedding Prep
The morning was really relaxed, being at Griffon Forest Holiday Lodges in the middle of the forest, bridal prep was always going to chill. With the exception of their daughter running riot and a squirrel popping up on the decking it was a really relaxed morning and perfect for me to just take my time and concentrate on photographing all the details.

Documentary Wedding Photography
Amy & Matt’s wedding at Sanburn Hall is a perfect example of how I like to work. My approach to photographing weddings has always been about putting the couple first. Whether that’s purely focusing on documenting the whole day as it happens with no posed photos or doing a bit more posed and styled photos. I’ve always focused on being able to capture weddings in a natural and relaxed way though.
That’s exactly what Amy & Matt wanted from their wedding photos. After about 5 minutes of some relaxed couple portraits in the gardens of Sandburn Hall, they decided that was enough and wanted to go back to their guests. Absolutely fine with me as I love capturing guests having a good time.

Sandburn Hall
Sandburn Hall is probably one of my ideal wedding venues, with Beautiful oak framed Grand Function Hall and the gardens making it perfect for couple portraits. Even better though, especially in rugby World Cup warm-up season, the downstairs bar shows sky sports, which meant come mealtime, I didn’t miss out on England playing Wales. Unfortunately, England lost.

Pork Pie Wedding Cake
Usually, a pork pie wedding cake from Appleton’s wouldn’t make it to the blog because it’s just a pork pie wedding cake, but there was a very good reason as to why Amy & Matt had a pork pie wedding cake (have I said pork pie wedding cake enough yet?). Every time Matt went to a wedding, he’d take a pork pie in his pocket and eat it during the drinks reception because by the time drinks reception comes around everyone is starving and honestly, the tiny canapes don’t do anything.

It was great to work with these guys too:
