Higher Trapp House – Abi & Chris

Outdoor wedding ceremony, lawn games and a limbo contest. What more could you ask for when photographing a wedding at Higher Trapp House?

I absolutely love outdoor weddings, they are always different, mainly because in the UK, photographing a wedding outside is usually cancelled with the rain, but Abi & Chris’ wedding at Higher Trapp House was filled with glorious sun. Lisa Rogers Celebrant held a really nice wedding ceremony at Higher Trapp House for the couple, filled with unique stories about the both of them, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Lancashire countryside. I particularly loved their choice in music with Gospel by MarchFourth Marching Band, which is featured at the end of Monsters University. Also to my surprise, they knew one of my current favourite bands too; Trumpasaurus!

Higher Trap House, with its idyllic countryside setting, provided the perfect backdrop for this outdoor wedding. Nestled in four acres of magnificent terraced gardens situated in the Pendle Valley. Amidst rolling green hills and charming gardens, the venue exudes a rustic and romantic ambience that set the stage for a remarkable celebration. From Higher Trapp you can see panoramic views across the Lancashire countryside.

For entertainment, the bride and groom brought a variety of outdoor lawn games. Giant Jenga is always a favourite with wedding photographers. You’ll always find us waiting for one of the wedding guests to make a mistake and topple it over. Laughter echoed throughout the gardens as friends and family revelled in the spirit of the day, it’s one of my favourite parts of the day, photographing everyone having a great time at Higher Trapp Hotel.
However, the best part of the day was the limbo contest. As the sun began to set in the evening, an impromptu limbo contest started. I’m still not sure how some of the 6ft groomsmen managed to last till the very end, but I’ll definitely be wanting to photograph more weddings with limbo at Higher Trapp again.

As it was so hot, everyone stayed out till late, but soon the celebration transitioned into a lively reception filled with dancing and music. The DJ managed to ensure that everyone hit the dance floor and danced the night away. One of my favourite wedding photos from Higher Trapp House that night was the bride’s grandad kitted out in photobooth props dancing on the wedding dance floor and his wife suddenly scolding him to take it all off and calm down.

Kathleen’s Florist also did an amazing job with the wedding flowers, they looked stunning and natural. No surprise that Abi didn’t want to do a bouquet toss and try and get the last few remaining bridesmaids engaged.
