My first wedding of 2017 was at The Old Barn at Esholt and it was perfect. The sun was out, apart from the odd 5 minute rain and hail shower, and the alcohol was flowing. The Old Barn is situated just north of Bradford, West Yorkshire and 2minutes drive from the famous Woolpack pub from Emmerdale. And yes, we did pop over for a couple photos.
Getting Ready for the wedding
I’ve known Liam for quite a few years from when we used gig together, so it was really nice to meet Sadie and photograph their wedding. The day started off at the Mercure Bradford Bankfield Hotel where Sadie and her bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done by the very talented Teri Rochelle Beauty & Make-up. Their wedding car to get them to the venue was a classic VW camper van provided by Yorkshire Wedding Cars.
Tears and a drunk wedding cake
The ceremony was beautiful, everyone was in tears (even the best man) and a reading by the bride’s maid of honour was the icing on the cake. Speaking of cake though, their wedding cake noticeably got drunker and drunker throughout the day. Even the Leaning Tower Of Pisa had competition by the time they cut the cake.
Natural, relaxed wedding photography
After the ceremony we quickly hopped in the camper van down the road to The Woolpack, I never realised how difficult it was to take pictures while bouncing around in the back of a camper. We also took advantage of the gardens for some candid, relaxed photos. My aim isn’t to pose my wedding couples too much, but let them have some alone time and chat while I hide in the bushes and capture some natural laughter. Back at The Old Barn the alcohol was flowing, everyone was having a great time and after the wedding breakfast everyone headed to the driving range next door for a spot of golf. This also made for a perfect spot for some last minute portraits with Sadie and Liam as the sun was setting just in front.
Documentary wedding photography
The best part of the wedding for me was just walking around in between all the different groups, documenting everyone laughing, having a good time and even catching the start of a food fight. The evening is more of the same, but with dancing and using my flash to freeze the peoples dance moves, but still catch the blurred lights.
